When the Classics Come Rolling In

Seattle and car shows seem to go hand in hand, especially during the summer and fall months each year. Car lovers enjoy reuniting with comrades from the motor world to show off their classic cars, talk about the rebuilds they’re working on and compare notes on the best ways to fix engines issues.

Families tend to like the shows because they’re kid friendly and a great way to re-live the past by checking out the super cool cars from days gone by. If you’ve thought about becoming a collector, a car show or cruise-in is a great way to get started because you’ll be able to talk to hundreds of classic car owners and get some good tips on classic car care.

While there are large car shows, you may also see some cruise-ins and even car clubs who have local meetings. Which events should you attend and what’s the difference between a show and a cruise-in?

These are usually held on weekend evenings or even on short notice during the week. Cruise-ins present an opportunity to classic car owners as well as other special collector vehicles to get together and check out a variety of cars.  Cruise-ins are usually free for fans to attend and often are accompanied by local food trucks or local businesses setting up small booths to offer their wares to the public. Cruise-ins are a fun time for all ages and a terrific way to see some cool cars up close. At some of the cruise-ins, cars are awarded people’s choice trophies or other awards for a variety of categories during the event. You can often find cruise-ins in many neighborhoods throughout Seattle during the spring and summer months.

Car Shows

Car shows are typically events that undergo a great deal of planning. Car owners usually need to register their car in advance and will need to pay a fee to enter. Many car shows have a theme based on a specific car. This may mean that only Mustangs are in a show or hotrods, classic American cars, British cars or even funny cars. Awards are usually given at car shows and depending on the type of show it is, awards can range from small trophies or certificates to gift cars, cash or merchandise.

Car shows may be held once a year or at various times throughout the year but they often include local business sponsorship, vendor booths, live music and other fun for all. Shows usually benefit a large charity or a small, local charity that assists residents who may need healthcare, food or housing. If you have plans to enter a car show, be sure to make plans to have your car shipped to the show so it will stay in show quality condition for the show.
