Mayor wants three others to stay on permanently

Mayor Jenny Durkan named the next interim head of the city’s transportation department on Monday, August 27, as a search committee works to find a permanent replacement for the role.
Linea Laird, who served as Chief Engineer and Assistant Secretary of Engineering and Regional Operations for Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), has taken over for Goran Sparrman on Sept. 1.
In a release, the mayor praised Sparrman’s work to “make SDOT more agile and transparent,” and that the department is better positioned to “execute on key transportation priorities,” because of his leadership.
“As we head into upcoming construction that will constrain our downtown streets, Linea will bring strong experience to oversee the delivery of Move Seattle levy and our City’s major capital transportation projects as well as expertise around Center City mobility challenges,” Durkan said.
The news of Laird’s appointment was coupled with word that the mayor has opted to keep three other interim directors on a permanent basis, pending the approval of the City Council: Calvin Goings, (Department of Finance and Administrative Services), Sue McNab, (Department of Human Resources) and Andrés Mantilla (Department of Neighborhoods).
