Low-income seniors and individuals and veterans with disabilities reporting a 2019 income less than $58,423 may be eligible for property tax relief in 2020 under new Department of Revenue guidelines published earlier this month.

45th District Sen. Manka Dhingra sponsored legislation last session to expand the number of people eligible for property tax exemptions and deferral programs by setting the threshold at an income level equal to 65 percent of a county’s median income. The statewide threshold had been $40,000, and in King County the median income is $58,423.

King County Assessor John Wilson announced the new DOR guidelines earlier this month, and is encouraging people to apply for the expanded programs when applications become available in January.
