espite a grassroots movement to save the venerable bar, The Funhouse, 206 Fifth Ave. N., appears headed for a rendezvous with the wrecking ball.
The effort on behalf of the Funhouse, for decades known as Tex’s Tavern, was profiled in the April 4 issue of City Living.
According to co-owner Brian Foss, writing on his Facebook page, “Our landlords sent us a notice informing us that the building has been sold and we have months to vacate the property, ending our tenancy on Oct. 31, 2012.”
Hoss noted that he and his business partner, Bobby Kuckleberg, are looking for another space.
The Funhouse gained currency as an in “dive bar,” with its pinball machines, a three-legged dog named “Boi,” a partially covered basketball hoop and as a venue for local bands.
The campaign to save The Funhouse went viral and spiraled into something more than a land-use story. New plans for the site call for a seven-story apartment complex.
Hoss wrote that he’s still hoping for a miracle that might keep them in their current location, adding, “And to anyone wanting to support us — please come by and buy a drink. We could use your business.”
