James Patrick Gaffikin, age 84, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2015. Jim was devoted to his wife of 59 years, Kay, his son, two daughters and five grandchildren. Jim was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington and moved to Seattle in the 1950s with his new bride, where they settled on Queen Anne Hill and raised their family. Jim attended Seattle University, where he played on their basketball team, then continued on to the University of Washington where he studied pharmacology. Jim worked as a chemist, plant engineer and supervisor at The Boeing Company from which he retired. He loved fishing, tennis, a good laugh, traveling to warm and sunny places, watching sports with his son and grandchildren, spending time with his wife Kay, talking about the accomplishments of his beloved grandkids and bragging about his Donegal Irish heritage. He was a cherished brother to his siblings, a treasured friend of his longtime Bellarmine High School alums, a good neighbor, and a man of deep Catholic faith.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kay; his son, Larry Gaffikin; his daughters, Debbie Lyons and Kate Gavigan; his five grandchildren: Alayna Doyal, Catherine Rose Doyal, Maggie Doyal, Kailey Gaffikin and Shane Gaffikin; as well as his sisters Marge Schlegel and Marie Schuler.
