State Sen. Pramila Jayapal visited educators at Nathan Hale High School in Meadowbrook May 5 for an announcement that the Seattle Education Association, a local branch of the National Education Association, had endorsed her candidacy for U.S. Congress.
“Getting a quality education is the reason I came to this country in the first place,” Jayapal said. “I want to help ensure that every child has the opportunities that I had.”
A spokesperson for Jayapal’s campaign said this was her 16th endorsement from a labor union in the race.
After U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott’s announcement in January that he would not seek re-election, Jayapal became one of four Democrats to announce their candidacy for his office, alongside State Rep. Brady Walkinshaw, King County Council member Joe McDermott and Donovan Rivers. No Republicans have announced their intent to run.
