Seattle Public Schools announced Friday that a new gender neutral bathroom will open at Nathan Hale High School in Meadowbrook.
An opening ceremony by Gender Awareness Group and Pride Club students is planned for 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 17.
According to a school spokesperson, nearly half of Seattle Public Schools' high schools have gender neutral bathrooms and all students are accommodated at all schools in some manner.
"[The district] is proud to have anti-discrimination policies in place," an announcement sent out from the district's Office of Public Affairs read.
Accommodations in bathrooms, locker rooms and other facilities were guaranteed to non-conforming students in late 2012 under an order initiated by former Superintendent Jose Banda.
