The Ballard High Chamber Orchestra was among 21 orchestras invited to perform at the National Orchestra Festival on March 3 and 4, presented by the American String Teachers Association in Tampa, Fla. This was the first time the Ballard Chamber Orchestra was represented at the festival.
The Ballard musicians returned home from their National Orchestra Festival performance after earning “superior” and “excellent” ratings from all judges. The Chamber Orchestra’s recordings will be preserved in the National Orchestra Festival archive.
The group of string players auditioned for their spots in the Ballard Chamber group. They worked to prepare 40 minutes of repertoire for their performance in Tampa, with director Brittany Newell, who also leads the Symphonic Orchestra and Fiddle Ensemble.
While in Tampa, students attended master classes, workshops and research sessions led by many of the leading musicians, academics and pedagogues in strings from across the country. Students also attended the National Solo Competition, featuring the top youth soloists from across the country.
